How can better time management make you happier?
Time management is not just a superficial way to juggle the chores of the day. It’s a way to structure your entire life and manage the architecture of your living so that you can spend your resources and energy on those things that matter the most. It’s not just about squeezing as much work into the day as you possibly can, but about balance and looking at your life with the knowledge that its proportions and priorities reflect your values.
It’s up to us to consciously steer the direction of life so that we make the most of the time and energy we have. The following experience helps you to do just that. For this experience, you will need a pen and paper, or you can use the notes app on your phone.
Happiness List
This activity encourages you to identify five actions that consistently bring you joy. Each should evoke feelings of happiness, relaxation, satisfaction, or inspiration whenever you engage in them. Make sure these activities are simple and accessible, allowing you to do them whenever you wish with minimal planning or expense. Examples include walking your dog, reading a novel, or visiting a local park, museum, or coffee shop.
Write down your list of five activities and post it in a visible location. Having this list handy reduces the effort of recalling these activities when you feel overwhelmed by negative emotions. The next time you find yourself struggling with distress, take a look at this list and choose one of the activities to engage in.
